There are many types of widescreen television available, the basic model is the standard widescreen television which is just like the old square televisions but has the wide screen. These standard widescreen televisions offer good quality pictures and are quite cheap, for this reason they have all but replaced the old large, square televisions but some are still available. Standard televisions have lots of cool features such as flat screen screens, these flat screens reduce the reflection of the screen. They are very thin, the depth at the back of an LCD or plasma TV is very small compared to the standard televisions, it is usually only 2 or 3 inches. This means that LCD and plasma televisions can fit into much smaller places than the standard televisions and take up much less space, they can even be hung from a wall. With these flat screen televisions the smaller models are usually LCD with the larger televisions being plasma, this is because of manufacturing constraints. So for smaller televisions LCD is better, you can get LCD TV's from 17 inches up to over 30, if you go much over 30 though it is worth considering a plasma model as they perform better at the larger screen sizes, the most popular LCD screen are 17, 20, 26 and 32 inches. With plasma screens you can get some very large screen sizes, 32 and 42 and very popular but you can get even bigger with 50 inches plus being available, 32 and 42 are the most commonly purchased though as they are cheaper and still offer a very big television screen and they are also very thin. LCD and plasma televisions have also come down in price quite allot making them quite cheap, they still cost more than standard televisions but with the sleek designs and sharp picture quality we feel they are well worth the extra money. Then there is the screen size, they vary between types of screen so in the flat screen models LCD is better for the small widescreen televisions and plasma is better for the large widescreen screens, the standard widescreen televisions offer a wide range of sizes although they do not go to the large sizes offered by plasma televisions.
