Welcome to the Water Filters page, this is our guide to buying water filters that remove substances from drinking water using filter cartridges from brands such as Brita, Kenwood, Breville, Samsung, Whirlpool, Culligan and many others.

Water filters are kitchen appliances that are used to remove impurities and other substances from tap water, they make the tap water taste better and therefore provide much better drinking water. Using a water filter has many advantages, as well as the taste improvements you will also no longer have to buy bottled water which is not as cheap and is allot of hassle. Water filters also provide piece of mind as you know that impurities such as aluminium, chlorine, copper, lead, nitrates, pesticides have been removed from the drinking water, tap water is safe to drink but does not taste as good as water that has been purified using a water filter. There are many brands that offer water filters and they include Brita, Samsung, Kenwood, Culligan, Breville, Whirlpool and others, Brita are the most popular and best well known due to their high standards and Brita television advertising.

Usually a water filter is jug shaped with a filter mechanism at the top of the jug, you pour water into the jug so that it passes through the filter mechanism and settles in the lower part of the jug. The water that is then in the lower part of the jug can be poured out into a glass at any time and will not come into contact with the impurities that were removed due to the jugs design. The water can take a while to pass through the filter mechanism so they may be a short wait for your first drink, most jug water filters have quite a large capacity though so you can top up the water whenever you need to.

Most water filters use cartridges to filter the water, these cartridges are what the water passes through and what remove the impurities from the water. Unfortunately these cartridges will need replacing when they have worn out, the life span of filter cartridges varies so this is a good thing to look for when buying a water filter, the longer the life of the cartridges the less often you will have to replace them. The replacement filter cartridges can purchased easily though and they usually come in packs of three or four so that you don't have to order replacement cartridges every time one wears out, the replacement cartridges are also the only running cost for the water filter jug after you have purchased it (apart from the tap water) so they still offer excellent value for money.

There are many types of water filter available, most are simple jugs that are cheap and effective at filtering the tap water. There are also other options, you can get water filters that chill the water after it has been filtered, having chilled water is great so these chilled water filters are worth looking out for. You can also get kettles that have a water filter incorporated into the kettle, these kettles are great if you drink allot of hot drinks as they save you having to filter the water separately and then pour it into the kettle.

When buying a water filter there are a few things to look out for, the main consideration is the capacity which dictates how much water the water filter can hold. The more water it can hold the more filtered water you will have available, remember that the water filters with large capacities will also be larger though so if space is an issue a smaller one may be better. Some water filters such as some of the Brita models also have electronic displays which show how much life the cartridge has left, these are useful as you can see when you are running low so that you can buy another cartridge before the current one runs out. The other feature to look out for is how easy it is to clean and what parts are dishwasher safe, the models that are easier to clean will save you lots of time and hassle.

Brita are the most popular manufacturers of water filters, when you look at the selection of water filters that shops sell most of them will be Brita water filters. Brita offer a huge selection of water filter jugs in lots of different sizes, they are also fairly cheap so are a great option when buying a water filter online. Brita also offer the chilled water filters that take tap water, filter it and then chill it, you can also get kettles that use Brita cartridges so they offer a great range of water filters. The replacement Brita cartridges can be purchased from most major online shops such as Argos and Amazon, they are also fairly cheap and come in multi packs. The other major manufacturers include Kenwood, Whirlpool, Samsung, Breville and Culligan.

So when buying a water filter there are quite a few choices, most people go for the simple jug models as they are cheap and produce good quality drinking water. There are also kettles that use water filters and water filters that can chill the water, these are ideal for people that like hot or cold drinks, the chilled water is especially nice in summer!
