Toasters are very popular in Britain, they come in 2, 4 or 6 slice varieties and come in plastic or metal finishes. The size of toaster you buy depends on the amount of toasting that you will need to do at any one time, the toasting only takes a short amount of time but if you are in a rush a 4 or 6 slice toaster can be very useful. 2 slice toasters are the cheapest option and are adequate for most people, 4 slice toasters are the best choice for average size families and 6 slice toasters are only required for large families who love toast! There are a few features to look for in a toaster, the first is the type of slots the toaster has for holding the bread while it is toasting. The best models have deep, wide slots that are angled so that it is easy to remove the toast, a high lift facility is also very useful as it raises the toast up so that it is easier to remove from the toaster. Another great feature to look for is a high speed element which will reduce the toasting time but still produce great results, high speed toasters usually cut toasting time by one third which is great if you are waiting for toast to pop up! With toasters that have 4 or 6 slice slots then separate 2 slot operation is a great feature, this means that the toaster will only heat the slots that have bread in them and therefore not waste energy.

Safety is an important aspect of toasters so it is worth checking that the toasters body will not become hot when in use and risk burning injuries, most toasters have this feature as standard. The other feature to look for is the removable tray which collects crumbs, this needs to be emptied on a regular basis.

So the main thing you need to think about when buying a toaster is the size, 2 slice toasters are cheap but do not have the capacity of 4 and 6 slice toasters. Then there is the slots, slots that are deep and wide are better and the ones that raise the toast when finished are even better, High speed toasters are also an option, these save toasting times by about one third. Then there is the brand, there are many available including Dualit, Russell Hobbs, Delonghi, Kenwood, Breville, Tefal, Morphy Richards and many more.
