Irons are an everyday household appliance that are used to remove creases from clothes after they have been washed, they use steam to make the ironing easier. This steam is generated from a water tank which is located in the iron, the water tank size in irons does vary with the larger ones being able to produce more steam before they need refilling. Irons are also very cheap and they are well worth the money, most clothing needs ironing so an iron is a very good investment, you will also need an ironing board but they are also very cheap. There are lots of brands that make irons and they include Philips, Morphy Richards, Kenwood, Tefal, Breville, Rowenta and others.
When buying a steam iron there are a few things to look out for, these include the steam output. The steam output states how much steam the iron can produce with higher steam outputs producing better ironing results, the more steam an iron produces the less effort will be required with your ironing and the faster the results will be. Anti scale is also an important feature, anti scale will extend the life of the iron and some models have permanent anti scale which means the iron should never have scale problems. Then there is auto shut off, if the iron is left for a long time then the iron will turn itself off so that it will not present a safety hazard, irons are obviously very hot so if you forget that it is turned on then the auto shut off will turn the iron off thus preventing any nasty accidents.
The bottom of the iron is called the soleplate, this is the piece of the iron that makes contact with your clothing. The material that is used to make the soleplate has an impact on the way the iron glides over the clothing, the basic material is aluminium with non stick models being popular. Then there are also a few other more advanced materials which offer more glide, there is stainless steel which offers better glide and spreads the heat more evenly and there are the ceramic coated soleplates which offer even better glide.
There is also another type of iron which is popular called a steam generator, steam generators produce much more steam than standard steam irons so produce better results. Steam generators are not as cheap as steam irons but they offer much quicker ironing and better crease removal, as with steam irons the more steam that a steam generator produces the more effective it will be at ironing clothing. Steam generators also have similar features to steam irons, they usually have the anti scale and auto shut off features and sometimes offer a fast heat up feature, they sometimes also offer continuous fill up so that you can add more water as you need it without having to turn off the steam generator and wait for it to cool, this is very useful if you have a large amount of ironing to do. There are many brands that offer steam generators and they include Kenwood, Philips, Morphy Richards, Breville, Tefal, Rowenta and others.
If you are looking for a cheap iron then it's best to have a good shop around as many of the shops sell cheap irons and also have cheap special offers and deals. Steam irons are the best choice when looking for a cheap iron, they are much cheaper than the steam generators but do not offer the same level of performance. There are many manufacturers that make steam irons and steam generators, they include Philips, Morphy Richards, Rowenta, Kenwood, Tefal, Breville and lots of others.
