Sony DVD recorders often have a hard disc drive (HDD) which makes recording programmes much easier as you do not need blank discs and you can always transfer your recordings onto a blank DVD if need be. The important thing about the hard drive is it's size; the options include 80GB, 160GB and 250GB and they all have lots of room for recordings but if you are going to be recording allot of content then the 160GB and 250GB hard drives would be much better. An HDD also offers some other cool features; with many HDD Sony DVD recorders you can actually pause live television and then have it play back when you are ready and if you are recording the live programme you will also be able to rewind it!

Another very useful feature with Sony DVD recorders is a Freeview tuner which offers free access to Freeview digital television. The main advantage of having Freeview built in is that you can select recordings from the Freeview menu instead of having to manually enter data.

There is quite a range of Sony DVD recorders and the prices vary quite allot too. The standard Sony DVD recorders are quite cheap and the HDD models can also be quite cheap for the 80GB models but the 160GB and 250GB Sony DVD recorders can be expensive but it is often worth it for the extra space.
