To use a DVD recorder you will need some blank DVD's, these are referred to as DVD-R with the 'R' indicating that the black DVD disc is writeable (it can be recorded onto). There are also other varieties of blank DVD, you can get DVD-RW which means that the disc can be recorded onto more than once, these discs are much better if you do not intend to keep the recording for long, standard DVD-R discs can only be recorded onto once. These blank DVD's are very cheap, they normally come in packs of 5 or 10 but you can get even larger packs, generally the larger the pack the cheaper the blank DVD's will be. There is also another very useful feature that is included in some DVD recorders and that is an internal hard drive, this is the same kind of hard drive found inside computers and is used to store information. This means that you can record programs onto the internal hard disc instead of a DVD, the amount of programs you can record depends on the size of the hard disc but most allow for lots of recording time with 60 or more hours being common. Some DVD recorders with an internal hard drive also offer other cool features, they allow you to pause live television because they can start recording when you press pause and then play back the program when you press play. So when buying a DVD recorder there are a few things to consider, the main things are the price as you will probably want a cheap DVD recorder, the features are pretty much standard among DVD recorders but some do have other useful features such as an internal hard drive and the multi region feature.
